BRANDING CREATIVE DIRECTION MARKETING

spore.fm

Spore.fm is an electronic music similarity search engine created by Garrett Barber, a music producer and DJ. Spore's initial goal was to help DJs discover new music that matched the vibe and style of existing songs in their library when building sets — though it can be used by anyone, regardless of their level of music knowledge, to simply find new music.
I collaborated with Garrett to develop an identity for Spore and apply the brand across the website interface. The name came about after Garrett described his typical music discovery process as "digging," noting that the web of connections between labels and artists felt organic and sprawling. We wanted the logo to feel reminiscent of 90s electronica aesthetics while also referencing that sense of connection. The color palette was chosen to evoke both the "digging" and mushroom themes, while nodding to the energy and excitement of dance music. I brought in graphics of organic instances of sprawling and connection as additional graphics to the brand, these are often used in the background or as supporting imagery to compositions.
