The Other Almanac
I collaborated with Ana Ratner, founder of The Other Almanac, to create its visual identity when it launched in 2021 and have since designed its layout for each annual release over the past three years. Working closely with Ana and various contributors, I design layouts for diverse articles and informational charts, prioritizing clarity and readability. One of the primary challenges has been presenting large datasets and extensive information in a digestible way, ensuring that each page feels intuitive and engaging.
Our vision was to give the publication a modern, updated look that still resonates with the classic charm of the original Old Farmer’s Almanac. The calendar spreads, featuring daily sunrise, sunset, day-length, moonrise, moonset, and the moon's zodiac sign, are styled like newspaper reports, providing readers with a rich overview of the month ahead. This foundational layout for the calendar influenced the structure and style throughout the rest of the publication, unifying the overall design.
